Spain’s Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Oscar Puente, met today with Minister of Maritime and Insular Policy, Vassilis Kikilias, in the presence of the Ambassador of Spain to Greece, Jorge Domecq.
During the meeting, the important role played by Greece and Spain as maritime powers in Europe, while particular emphasis was placed on the common challenges faced by the Mediterranean countries of the EU.EU, especially in terms of strengthening their competitiveness.

In this context, it was agreed that there should be continuous coordination between the two countries to further strengthen the European Union’s Mediterranean ports to serve as stable pillars of growth for the national economies.
At the same time, the discussions focused on the unfragmentation of shipping, with V. Kikilias emphasising the need for a realistic approach at European and international level, especially in the light of the relevant discussions at the International Maritime Organisation (IMO). In this context, it was pointed out that the transition should take into account the real market potential, the availability of alternative fuels and the pressures facing the European economy and the average European family.
