In Cyprus, Vassilis Kikilias, is in Cyprus to participate in the Ministerial Conference on Nautics.
Minister of Shipping and Insular Policy, Vassilis Kikilias, has travelled to Cyprus to participate as the main speaker at the Seafarer’s High Level Ministerial Conference in Limassol on 28/4/2026, in the framework of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU, as well as at the Informal EU Ministerial Council on Maritime Transport in Nicosia on 29/4/2026.
In the context of the Ministerial Conference in Limassol, he will participate as the keynote speaker at the opening session alongside the Cypriot Deputy Minister of Shipping, Marina Hadjimanoli, the European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas and the Member of the European Parliament, Eliza Wozemberg. In addition, he will attend the award ceremony of Captain Panagiotis Tsakos, Founder of the Tsakos Group of Companies.
The following day, he will participate in the discussions to be held in the framework of the Atypical EU Council of Ministers.in Nicosia, on the theme “Investing in people for a resilient and competitive European Maritime Sector”, which will result in the adoption of the Nicosia Declaration focusing on the strengthening of seafarers’ training and safety,as well as the need to promote maritime professions in the EU, given the link with the competitiveness of the maritime sector as a whole. Finally, the Declaration raises the issue of equal access for women to the maritime professions.
In the margins of the Informal Council, Mr Kikilias will hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts (France, Lithuania, etc.).
