The head of European diplomacy questions the Donald Trump and Bladimir Putin contacts over Ukraine, warning of geopolitical gaps and unanswered critical questions.
At a time of intense geopolitical upheaval and heightened uncertainty surrounding the war in Ukraine, recent revelations of conversations between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin have sparked a new wave of reactions in Europe. Kaya Kalas, the European diplomatic chief, expresses open concern about the content and intentions of these contacts, noting that critical ambiguities remain as to what actually was discussed. Her statements indicate the concern of the European institutions about possible behind-the-scenes processes that could affect developments in the war and the overall balance of power on the international scene.
The telephone communications between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin leave many unanswered questions, European diplomacy chief Kaya Kalas said.
Sharp statement
Trump said yesterday that he had discussed with Putin a possible ceasefire in Moscow’s four-year war against Ukraine.
“Of course when we see these phone calls between President Trump and President Putin, then always, you know, a lot of questions remain unanswered, given that Russia is openly praising the heroic battle that Iran is fighting against America,” Kaya Kalas told reporters in Estonia.
