The investigation into the conduct at OPEKEPE sparks a new political controversy, with PASOK calling for the reconstitution preliminary investigation committee.

A request to investigate any criminal charges against former minister Rural Development, Spilios Livanos, and the former Deputy Minister, Fotini Arabatzi, submitted by the opposition to the Parliament.

PASOK’s initiative is based on the findings of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office regarding the management of the OPEKEPE, calling for the establishment of a Special Parliamentary Committee to examine the acts and omissions of the two executives.

Spilios Livanos’ strong reaction

The response by Livanou, who spoke of micropolitical considerations and “irresponsible initiative” on the part of Charilaou Trikoupis. The former minister appeared unmoved in his positions, stating that his involvement in the case lacks basis.

In his personal statement, Spilios Livanos stressed:

“A short while ago, PASOK submitted a proposal for the establishment of a preliminary investigation committee against me. Because I was the one who highlighted the timeless scandal of OPEKEPE in 2021. Because I was the one who fought to contain it. But unfortunately for today’s PASOK, minor political expediency trumps truth

Mr. Livanos expressed his full confidence that the truth will shine during the parliamentary process, noting:

“Those who have dealt even a little with the case of OPEKEPE, know how unjust and unsubstantiated is the involvement of my name in it. I am sure that the information I will provide to the Parliament and to Greek society will thwart this irresponsible initiative of PASOK.”
