Strike protests in Athens and in major cities across the country are being held today for the anniversary of the Labour Protective May Day.
A series of assemblies have been planned in different parts of Athens and Piraeus, with the participation of the country’s main trade union bodies.
Specifically, the General Confederation of Trade Unions and the Athens Labour Centre (EKA) are calling at 11:00 in Klathmonos Square, while a rally point has been set at Korai Square by the ADEDY. At 10:30 a.m. the mobilization announced by PAME will take place in Syntagma, while in Piraeus the meeting will be held in the Municipal Theatre Square by the Piraeus Labour Centre.
Similar movements will be held in Thessaloniki, as well as in other cities of Greece.
The Panhellenic Seamen’s Federation (PNO) will commemorate Labour Day with a 24-hour nationwide strike.
The mobilization began at midnight on May 1 (00:01) and will end at 24:00 on the same day, resulting in the universal immobilization of all categories of ships.
How will public transport in Athens, Piraeus and Thessaloniki operate
Public transport in Athens, Piraeus and Thessaloniki will operate with route restrictions and security personnel, due to the strike action.
In Athens and Piraeus:
The Gram 1 (HSTAP), 2 and 3 of the Metro as well as the Tram will not operate throughout the day.
On buses and trolleybuses, workers will hold a work stoppage from the start of the shift until 09:00 in the morning and from 21:00 until the end of the shift.
The operation of the vehicles will start gradually after the end of the work stoppage at 09:00 and, respectively, the gradual withdrawal of the vehicles to the depots will start before 21:00.
In addition, due to the participation of some of the employees in the 24-hour strike of the GSEE, cancellations of bus routes are expected during the period of operation.
It should be noted that a Sunday timetable will be in force for the operating times of buses and trolleybuses.

In Thessaloniki:
The buses of the Organisation of Urban Transport of Thessaloniki (OASTH will be operated with security personnel today, Friday, 1 May, as the OASTH Employees’ Union will participate with a 24-hour strike in the established May Day mobilisations.
The specially adapted vehicles for people with disabilities will operate normally, as well as the nightly line N1 which runs the KTEL – Airport Night route.
Four stations of the Thessaloniki Metro will be suspended for seven hours, according to a statement by “Thema”. Specifically, as noted in the statement, on the order of the police authorities, from 09:00 to 16:00 the operation of the stations “Venizelou”, “Agia Sophia”, “Sidrivani” and “University” is suspended.
At the same time, there may be delays in timetables or restrictions in the operation of the metro, due to the strike mobilization called by the General Confederation of Workers of Greece.
