Greece is attempting to enter the “front line” of European space technology after the launch of six new microsatellites, which join the existing 11.
In a post by the prime minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis stresses: “Greece today takes another leap into space: with the launch of six new microsatellites – four thermal satellites and two of the Hellenic Space Dawn mission – our national fleet now reaches 17 satellites in orbit, shielding Civil Protection, enhancing climate resilience and putting our country at the ‘forefront’ of European space technology.”
He makes special reference to the National Microsatellite Programme, worth a total of around €200 million, funded by the “Greece 2.0” Recovery and Resilience Fund and implemented in collaboration with ESA.
“The total of 17 Greek microsatellites provide multiple daily shots over Greece for Civil Protection, environmental monitoring, rural development and national security“, Kyriakos Mitsotakis informs.
“On the occasion of the arrival of the European Commissioner for Defence and Space, Andrius Kubilius, in Greece tomorrow, we will have the opportunity to discuss what we have done for the protection of European territories and the very important space programme of our country, in connection with the Govsatcom programme for secure European communications, whose node is being created in Greece”, Kyriakos Mitsotakis stresses. “We continue! With a plan, steady steps and determination we are building together the Greece of 2030“, concludes the message of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
