A post on the Marfine tragedy, when three people, including a pregnant woman, were burned alive, was made by government spokesman, Pavlos Marinakis.
As he points out, “it was not “a bad moment”. It was a brutal crime. A murderous act that took the lives of innocent people and scarred the country.”
He notes that “the memory of this tragedy does not allow for neutrality. The democracy must respond with determination to those who choose violence and attempt to legitimize it or even to those who invest in hatred and toxicity.”
According to Pavlos Marinakis:
“The Marfin tragedy was not “a bad moment”. It was a brutal crime. A murderous act that took the lives of innocent people and scarred the country. There is no excuse, no “explanation” for such actions. Fanaticism that arms hands and turns dissent into death cannot be tolerated in a democracy. The memory of this tragedy does not allow for neutrality. Democracy must respond with determination to those who choose violence and attempt to legitimise it, or even to those who invest in hatred and toxicity. Because every word of hate left unchallenged finds room to take root in society.”
