As Anna Diamantopoulou tries to balance on two boats by contradicting herself and adopting new arguments.
From being the guardian of the institutions (the prime minister in this case) in 2022, she is now railing against Justice by adopting what opposition is peddling about the case of the backlinks.
Thematic… break
On November 9, 2022, as a candidate for OASA she was asked in an interview to comment on the case, which had recently been revealed. At the time, without hesitation, she spoke of “attacking the prime minister of the country without understanding, or understanding and doing it on purpose, how important it is to accuse him without evidence and proof, at a time when he has to play a decisive role at the European level and especially in Greek-Turkish relations. And they are putting names in the air again without any proof. There is no evidence against him. It doesn’t matter whether Tsipras, Androulakis or Mitsotakis is prime minister. He is the prime minister of the country…”
This statement, then, is the opposite of what PASOK claimed then and now, trying to identify the prime minister with the case.
At the same time, comparing the links directly to the Novartis scandal, where “ten prominent politicians of the country were hanged in the kiosks, for five years there was a debate without evidence”, he had urged everyone to be careful. He had also compared the witness statements with the hooded witnesses of the past and had called it a major international issue and one for which the judiciary has the final say.
But since 2022, a lot of water has flowed down the drain. Anna Diamantopoulou has been an unsuccessful candidate for president of PASOK and has been drawn to approaching issues as prescribed by the leadership of Charilaou Trikoupis. This is how her newest statement, in which she refers to a cover-up, came about.
In her post, she does a 180-degree turn, claiming that “probably now the hardest part begins”, that “now the political battle will come to a head” and that “what N. Androulakis testified at a recent press conference “confirms it”! “Cases are not closed with provisions. They are closed by decisions and accountability,” he adds, invoking democracy and railing against the prosecutor of the Supreme Court and his decision.
She revealed “evidence”
She even defended this post in an interview with ERTnews Radio 105.8, citing that evidence currently exists in relation to 2022. What are they? “All the people who were monitored and among them is the foreign minister, we have assured private monitoring”. But again, “Justice will have to go all the way.”
Anna Diamantopoulou also takes the view that “there was a plan that we have to see where it starts”, although Justice has ruled and convicted those involved who are awaiting the Court of Appeal. He also refers to “statements” as evidence, i.e. what he had convicted in 2022, comparing it to the hooded witnesses of Novartis. And finds that “we have very concrete examples of the violation of the rule of law and institutions”.
