Within a month, the date of the extension of the Telesaloniki Metro to the area of Kalamaria will be known to citizens, State Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, N. Tahiaos.
In response to a relevant question from their Syriza-PS MP, Katerina Notopoulou, Mr. Tahiaos said, “that at the end of this month, probably on May 29, we will the operation of the baseline will be interrupted for 15 days, so that those tests which are very necessary for the integration of the two systems can be carried out.
And I can tell you that the last request proposal and there will be no more from the contractor of the construction, which specifies the timing of the delivery of the contract for the construction and commissioning of Thessaloniki Metro by 31 July 2026. That is less than three months. This is the timeline that I can announce at this moment.”
Earlier, Ms. Notopoulou had asked the minister when the Thessaloniki Metro extension to Kalamaria will be delivered, asking for a clear timeline.
“Beyond the ambiguities, beyond the delays, we have too many announcements from your government and from you personally, all of which have been refuted. You delivered the subway slower and much more expensively, when you told us you were changing Venizelou’s design to deliver it faster and cheaper. The government of Alexis Tsipras, with Christos Spirtzis as minister, ran the project and delivered it cheaply to the citizens and you stopped it,” Ms. Notopoulou stressed, criticizing the government’s handling of this issue.
“There is a impatience in the people of Thessaloniki for the delivery of the Kalamaria line. We are at a very advanced stage, and this allows us to say that the metro will be operational in summer. So if we insist on not giving a very specific date on which we will confirm that passengers will enter the metro, it is precisely because we recognize the difficulties of this project,” the minister replied, and concluded by saying,
“We recognize this difficulty of this project and we want to be very precise in Thessaloniki on the next date that we will give. Within this month and very early, that date will be known to the people.”
