A new date has been set due to the absence of Polakis for the trial of the defamation case.

postponed the hearing of the case concerning the complaint of Konstantinos Maraveias against Pavlos Polakis for slander and malicious libel.

The case concerns the intense political controversy that had erupted in 2022, following public reports and posts by Pavlos Polakis regarding investment projects linked to the wife of Konstantinos Maraveias and the Development Law. Maraveias had rejected the allegations from the outset, calling them false and slanderous, and had announced his appeal to Justice.

According to the background of the case, the Parliament had proceeded in February 2023 to lift the immunity of SYRIZA MP Pavlos Polakis, following the lawsuit filed by the then New Democracy MP for defamation. The waiver of immunity had been accepted with 157 positive votes.

After the postponement, the judicial continuation of the case is postponed to 7 October 2026. According to Pleura Maraveia, this is the th postponement of the case, which is attributed to the Polakis side.

The SYRIZA MP did not attend the courtroom, citing surgery scheduled a month ago. The court granted the request for a postponement and set a new trial date for October.

The Maraveias – Polakis confrontation had taken on strong political characteristics, as Pavlos Polakis had publicly accused Konstantinos Maraveias of a funding case through the Development Law in his wife’s name, while Maraveias had responded by calling it a case of targeting and slander. The Maraveias side insists that the case must be decided institutionally and judicially, while the substance of the controversy is now expected to be considered in the next hearing.
