The new bill of Ministry of Justice entitled “Reform of inheritance law and other provisions” was submitted today (9/5) to the Parliament and is now on its way to parliamentary processing.
According to the schedule, the draft law will be introduced on Tuesday (12/5) in the relevant committee of the House of Representatives, while its debate and vote in the plenary session is scheduled for the week after next.
Reports indicate that the provision concerning the faster clearance of court cases in which MPs are involved as defendants was not included in the bill after all.
As noted, the aim of the new legislative initiative is “to modernise and adapt the law of succession to modern economic and social needs”.
The Bill makes a number of changes and interventions in key areas of inheritance law.
Among other things, it includes:
a) reforming intestate succession and legal succession,
b) revising the system for the heir’s liability for the obligations of the estate,
c) the upgrading of the institution of the judicial liquidation of inheritance,
d) the simplification of the settlement of the relations between co-heirs,
(e) the introduction of new institutions of inheritance law, namely contracts of inheritance for cause of death, contracts of inheritance waiving future rights to the estate and
(f) the abolition of institutions of inheritance law which have fallen into disuse.
