Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has been in Thessaloniki, where he is participating in the proceedings of the last pre-conference of the New Democracy.
Shortly after 10:30 he was present at the inauguration of the “Thessaloniki Metropolis” Museum, which was created in the Pavlou Mela Metropolitan Park.
During his speech at the inauguration, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of preserving and promoting the cultural identity of the city, emphasizing that connecting the past with the present is a strategic choice.
“It is a political choice to highlight the intangible wealth from century to century to reach our days,” Kyriakos Mitsotakis said.
Then he added: “This is how we understand the importance of each era. The Egnatia axis has its origins in the Roman era. Those who enjoyed the findings in the metro stations will also have the opportunity to see the exhibits in this museum, where the findings from a Roman villa can be found in the enclosure.”
The new Museum “Thessaloniki Metropolis”is housed in the building Stratonism A3 and is developed in an area of about 3,000 square meters, inside the former Pavlos Mela camp. It is a space directly linked to the history of the city and the transformation of western Thessaloniki.
Of particular interest are the archaeological finds housed in the museum, many of which are linked to the excavations of the Taloniki Metro and the long history of the area. Visitors will be able to browse exhibits from different historical periods, following the city’s journey through the centuries.
At the same time, the prime minister also referred to the wider regeneration project in the area, as the Pavlos Melas Metropolitan Park is expected to be officially inaugurated next month, changing the image of a historic part of Thessaloniki and creating a new green and cultural lung for the city’s residents.
