Lefteris Petrounias added another major distinction to his tally, winning first place and the gold medal at the Panhellenic Gymnastics Championships in the Kriak event.
The event took place this year in Thessaloniki, in the hall “I. Melissanidis” in the Mikra indoor stadium, with the top Greek athlete attracting all the attention.
The so-called “King of the rings” presented a particularly demanding program and was praised by the fans in the arena. He showed that he is at a very good level, even though he did not yet feel fully prepared.
In his statements after winning the gold medal, Lefteris Petrounias revealed that he tried a new program with an increased level of difficulty, while leaving optimistic messages for the rest of the year.
“I came here to try a new one, the one I tried I’ve only done once since Cairo, when I had the back injury, we upped the difficulty level, I’m going to play at that level of difficulty and I wanted to try it here and to tell you the truth I wasn’t quite ready. I’m in very good shape, in the European we will be flying”, he said.
