The GAD has been in the captors of the robbery that took place on Monday morning (11/05) at a bank in Titorea.
On the scene were arrested four men and a woman, who fell into the hands of the National Police a few minutes after the bank in Fthiotida was raided in an operation by the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime.
Also in the GADA are three more people, two men and a woman, bringing the number of those arrested to 8.
The robbers’ assault rifles had a bullet in the chamber, but the determination of the officers prevented the attackers from using them.
In the immediate aftermath of the armed raid on the bank in Tithorea, forces from Athens, specifically from the Burglary Department, were deployed to the area, in addition to local police authorities. Armed police officers began sweeping the streets when they managed to locate the perpetrators’ silver stolen vehicle. They followed it, but the thugs tried to escape by building up speed on the country roads.
The IAB forces were determined not to let them escape this time and blocked the vehicle in a cul-de-sac.
There the robbers exited the vehicle with assault rifles in their hands, pointing them at the officers.
Finding that they no longer had a chance to escape, they decided to surrender, with the officers handcuffing them and, under extreme secrecy, taking them to the GADA, taking them up to the Burglars’ offices by the elevators used by security commanders rather than the main entrance.
It was important for them to gain as many hours as possible, so they could raid the homes of those arrested.
Besides the Tithorea robbery, authorities believe these perpetrators also committed the 2025 robbery in Katochi Messolonghi, where they held employees and customers hostage.
Genetic material and fingerprints from the arrested men will be analyzed as a priority to determine what other cases they have been involved in.
The arrest of the robbers without a single bullet being fired and without anyone being injured is a success for the AIOE, which had to deal with some armed men even with grenades.
Investigations continued in Athens where three more persons were arrested.
Also, weapons and vehicles have been found. Kalashnikovs, scorpions, grenades and pistols were found on the perpetrators.
