Background processes
In an interview with Alpha TV, the Cypriot President referred to intense behind-the-scenes processes, which are ongoing and, he hinted, could lead to substantial developments in the process.
He attached particular importance to the recent meeting between Antonio Guterres and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara. According to Christodoulides, this meeting seems to have given a “green light” for the promotion of substantive discussions on the Cyprus problem.
The President also said that the UN Secretary General is expected to convene a new Informal Multilateral Conference on the Cyprus problem in the summer. Its preparation, he said, is potentially accompanied by high-level moves behind the scenes.
