A passenger on the cruise ship is negative about the hantavirus, and is being treated in quarantine as a precautionary measure at Attikon hospital, Health Minister, Andonis Georgiades, told ERTnews.
“He is negative to the chantavirus. He is very much in his health,” Georgiadis said. In fact, he explained that the decision for a 45-day quarantine at the hospital was taken in the context of the strictest implementation of the protocols, with the aim of maximum safety in view of the tourist season.
The minister thanked the Greek passenger because, as he noted “this man is suffering a very great suffering and he is suffering it for all of us.Because the reason we decided to follow the strictest version of the protocol and have him spend 45 days in quarantine in hospital when he could have been at home in quarantine, is because we told him that Greece is a tourist country.
We don’t have a way of monitoring his home. If we had a one-in-a-billion case of Hantavirus in Greece at the start of the tourist season, it would be a factor of great damage to thousands of businesses, workers and the country. And to make us all feel more secure, we asked him to comply with this protocol and he accepted immediately, he did not raise any objection.”
Also, Georgiades said that all measures have been taken and there is no need to worry. Hantavirus is not covid. “I read on the internet about new quarantines and mandatory masks. None of that is true, no such planning is in place, let’s not exaggerate,” he concluded.
