Compensation amounting to €3.6 million will be credited today and in the coming days to 226 cattle farmersin the regions of Western Macedonia and Western Greece, as announced by the Ministry of Rural Development and Food.
The compensation payments concern livestock that killed in the context of the implementation of the measures to eradicate the epizootic disease of smallpox in sheep and goats.
Specifically, in the Region of Western Macedonia EUR 164,545.70 are paid to 34 beneficiaries, while in the Region of Western Greece 3 are paid.463,804.30 euros to 192 beneficiaries.
As stated in a statement by YPAT, on 28 April the payment of 22,757,594.65 euros to 849 beneficiaries for compensation to livestock farmers for smallpox and foot-and-mouth disease. With today’s payment, the compensation paid in 2026 for killed animals due to epizootic diseases totals €26,385,944.65.
Finally, on 4 April, €4.4 million was paid. EUR 4.4 million to the Regions to cover operational costs related to the implementation of veterinary measures in the context of the control of smallpox in sheep and goats and foot-and-mouth disease.
