Scenes of tension and upheaval were recorded in Ano Liosia, when a police chase of a suspicious vehicle ended in a serious incident with an extended attack on DI.A.S. forces. According to reports, a group of people reportedly attacked the officers with rocks, sticks and objects, causing chaos at the scene and injury to a uniformed officer, who was taken to hospital for medical treatment. Authorities proceeded to make arrests, while an extensive investigation is underway to fully identify the involved parties and investigate the circumstances under which the incident unfolded.

According to ProtoThema.gr, policemen of the DIA team were attacked by a group of about 80 Roma in Ano Liosia, after chasing a suspicious vehicle, resulting in the injury of a policeman by stones and a bite.

The timeline

It all started when the policemen spotted a suspicious vehicle in the area and attempted to carry out a check. The driver did not comply with the authorities’ signal and picked up speed in order to escape, leading the officers in a chase that ended on Anagenesis Street.

When the police forces approached the spot, they were reportedly attacked by a group of about 80 Roma people, who, according to the same information, exited an adjacent camp. The perpetrators allegedly used stones, bottles and sticks, causing tension and disruption in the area.

A policeman of the DIA team was injured in the incident and was taken to the 401 Military Hospital. At the same time, damage was also caused to the ELS motorbike, which was at the centre of the attacks.

Police authorities made three promotions. Among those arrested reportedly include the driver of the vehicle who attempted to flee the checkpoint, as well as two women who allegedly participated in the riots.

The ELS is continuing its preliminary investigation to fully investigate the case, while the identification of additional individuals who participated in the attack on the police officers is under consideration.
