Ozgur Ferhat has submitted a letter of resignation from the New Left, which now has 11 members, amid rumours of further resignations due to party Tsipras.
At a time of intense turmoil, the New Left parliamentary group suffered its first loss, as Rhodope MP Ojgur Ferhat announced his independence on Friday afternoon (15/05).
His letter was communicated to the plenary session of the Parliament by the chairman Vassilis Viliardos, addressed to the President of the Parliament, Nikitas Kaklamanis.
This withdrawal limits the strength of the New Left to 11 MPs, bringing it closer to the 10-member threshold needed to maintain the parliamentary group.
The move by Ferhat is seen by political analysts as a harbinger of wider shake-ups, as reports suggest members of the party’s minority are considering joining the new formation under Alexis Tsipras.
