The issue with the “background” of Mr. Androulakis has political as well as moral dimensions.
“The opposition official opposition is drumming up. We did not question the legality, but we raised the ethical aspect of the case. The PASOK refers to an earlier case involving Ms. Bakoyannis. At that time, a question had been raised about her
Pathos in Parliament, her immunity was requested to be lifted and she was subsequently vindicated in court. That case had caused a great political uproar.
The issue with the “past affairs” of Androulakis has political and ethical dimensions. Let me remind you that Ms Bakoyannis herself had at that time brought the political issue into the public debate. So what are we comparing? Disparate things? Imagine if a member of the New Democracy had been in Mr. Androulakis’s position today. What would have happened then?
Very often in Parliament the opposition, and especially PASOK, converges with the views of Ms. Konstantopoulou and, in the vast majority of cases, its MPs raise issues of legitimacy,” said in an interview with Naftemporiki TV the New Democracy’s deputy B2 West Sector of Athens, Maria Syreggela, commenting on statements made by members of the PASOK – Movement for Change for an earlier case concerning the “past affairs” of Dora Bakoyannis.
On the reactions expressed by members of New Democracy, Ms. Syrengela said:
“Because I am a person who comes from the very beginnings of the party, I understand the anguish and the different opinions that may exist. But what we should never forget is that too much stuff has been done in recent years and we have to acknowledge that. We see in our everyday life that people are recognizing it and a large portion of citizens are welcoming it. The New Democracy is a large popular party with different views, but in the end they converge and we come out united.”
