A series of meetings was held by Kyriakos Mitsotakis yesterday (16/05) on the sidelines of the Europe Gulf Forum, hosted by Costa Navarino.

Specifically, the Greek prime minister met with International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, Finland President Alexander Stump and British Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy.

During the meeting that Kyriakos Mitsotakis had with the head of the IMF, the impact of the Gulf crisis on the global economy and on energy supply was discussed, with an emphasis on the potential of the European Union to mitigate the consequences for its citizens and businesses. Mrs. Georgieva congratulated the Prime Minister on the rapid and dynamic recovery of the Greek economy and the reform work that has been implemented in recent years.

At the meeting with the President of Finland there was an exchange of views on the situation in the Middle East. Kyriakos Mitsotakis noted that Greece has now developed relations of mutual trust and sincere cooperation with all the countries of the region and acts as a bridge between the EU and the Gulf. They also discussed the latest developments in Ukraine.

As part of the meeting with the Vice President of the British Government, the importance of maintaining free navigation for the global economy and the need to avoid precedents that would restrict free passage in the Straits of Hormuz were stressed.

The Prime Minister pointed out that Greece, as a leading power in the maritime sector, participates in the EU’s ASPIDES mission and is part of the multinational initiative, led by Britain and France, for the post-war security of the Straits.
