The Donald Trump has come back with new statements about Iran, claiming that the country’s military capabilities have been all but neutralized.
Talking to reporters, American president reiterated that “their navy has been destroyed, their air force has been destroyed, almost everything is gone.”
He noted that the key question now is whether the United States “will go ahead and end it” or whether Iran will choose to sign a deal. “We’ll see what happens,” he said.
“We hit them very hard. We may have to hit them even harder, but we may not,” he said, speaking at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy graduation ceremony.
“We will not let Iran get nuclear weapons. That’s it. It’s very simple. They want so badly to make a deal, we’ll see what happens.”
Earlier, Trump had said he was in no hurry to reach a peace deal with Tehran, while stressing the importance of developments in the Strait of Hormuz.
“We would have to open the Strait of Hormuz and that would happen immediately. That is why we will give this process a chance,” he said.
The US president also added that it is better “to see a few dead instead of many,” but added: “We can do it both ways.”
During his remarks, he also referred to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying that “he will do what I want.”
“He’s a wartime prime minister and I just don’t think he’s going to be treated well,” Trump added.
