An alarm was raised shortly before dawn on Saturday (23/5) in Microlimano, following an incident of shots fired during a police check outside a health food shop.

According to initial reports, police officers patrolling the area spotted a man on foot and deemed his behavior suspicious. They asked him to stop for a checkpoint, but he reportedly refused to comply.

According to the same reports, the man pulled out a gun, causing officers to respond immediately. One of them made use of his service weapon and wounded the man, fearing he would shoot at them.

Immediately after the incident, the area was cordoned off by strong forces of the CID., while a TEMM team also arrived at the scene, as six grenades were found in the wounded man’s backpack.

Meanwhile, according to a spokeswoman for EΛ.AΣ., police officer B’ Konstantia Demoglidou, the man in question had on him a total of two pistols and a revolver.

Hc. Demoglidou said officers reacted immediately when the man pulled out the gun.

“Officers reacted immediately as soon as the man advanced the gun, taking cover positions before firing.”

The wounded man was taken by EKAB ambulance to “Attikon” hospital. According to information so far, he was evacuated conscious, but no further details about his health condition have been released.

So far he has not been identified, and it remains unknown if he has been previously involved with the authorities.
