The price of European gas fell by about 20% at the open, after the price of oil also retreated after Donald Trump got his ultimatum against Iran and Tehran said it was ready to negotiate.

Shortly after trading began at 09:00 GMT, the Dutch TTF futures contract, considered the European benchmark, was down 19.24 percent at 43 euros after retreating just over 20 percent to 42.5 euros.

At the same time oil prices fell more than 15% today, much to the relief of stock markets in Asia, which jumped.

Oil is down and the price is hovering below $100.

Around 08:00 (GMT), the price of West Texas Intermediate (WTI)deliverable in May, which is the U.S. benchmark for crude oil, was down 14.53% at $96.54.

North Sea Brent barrel Brent for delivery in June, which is the global market benchmark, was for its part down 13.13% at $94.92.

Both fell below the symbolic $100 mark in a market relieved by the prospect of a ceasefire in Iran.
