A police operation by the Organised Crime Unit Crete has been underway since this morning on the island to dismantle a criminal organisation linked to illegal subsidies from OPECKEPE.
Members of the organisation are accused of being involved in fraud against the financial interests of the European Union, as well as making false declarations for the collection of grants.
The EΛ.AΣ. operation is focused in areas of Heraklion, Rethymnon and Lassithi and so far they have arrested 20 members of the organization, among whom are two accountants and three K.Y.D.
The illegal financial benefit, according to the data so far, exceeds 3,000,000 euros.
After the completion of the operation, announcements are expected from the ELAS.
