Search at European level for protection adults and limits on access to social media.

The prime minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis today participated in a teleconference on the protection of adults on the internet and the adoption of a pan-European age limit for access to social media, convened at the initiative of French President Emanuel Macron.

During the teleconference, in which 14 EU member states were represented and European Commission President Orsula von der Leyen took part, the Prime Minister gave an update on Greece’s decision to soon legislate to ban minors under 15 from accessing social media, a measure that will come into force on January 1, 2027.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed the need for a European age verification mechanism, as well as a European digital age of majority, so that national initiatives are fully harmonised with EU legislation.
