One of the dilemmas of the elections of 2027 was raised by Kyriakos Mitsotakis in a conversation with CNN journalist Christiane Amanpour.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis in his conversation with CNN journalist Christiane Amanpour, thus setting one of the dilemmas of the 2027 elections.

“In Greece, we need to ensure that the foundations we have built over the last few years remain solid in order to lead to macroeconomic stability. It is non-negotiable for me in order to implement our policies. Greece is moving towards stability. So we can reduce taxes, support incomes of vulnerable people and families. The question at the next election is whether we will continue these policies,” the prime minister said, stressing that our country has always been on the right side of history.

“It has done well in the face of threats. We believe that our position in the world is largely determined by the strength of our economy and our ability to make internal reforms. This is what Venizelos did. It is important to read the international environment and make the right alliances. In an era of geopolitical turmoil, strength counts,” he asserted, noting that “we are no longer the problem child of the Eurozone as we were ten years ago.”

Talking about Greek-American relations, Mitsotakis said that it is recognized that Greece is a pole of stability in the region and spoke about our country’s energy program and natural gas exploration in cooperation with American companies.

On the war in Ukraine, Mitsotakis said the key to bringing Russia to the negotiating table is for Putin to understand that he will not achieve his goals militarily.

“A basic precondition for a peace agreement is to find a point of contact. I hope we will come back to that with tangible guarantees that Russia will not target Ukraine again. I think we are closer to Russia understanding that there is no point in this war. I can’t get into Putin’s head. Any reasonable person realizes that Putin has more to lose than he will gain if he continues the war,” he said.

Meanwhile, while at the event on artificial intelligence and gov.gr he reiterated that the elections will be held in 2027, the meeting of the ND Political Committee this afternoon may formally have the sole topic of the election of Kostas Kyranakis as the new secretary of the ruling party, but in fact it will also have the character of an election starting point.

According to reports, Kyriakos Mitsotakis will begin his speech by explaining what his choice to nominate Kostas Kyranakis for the post of secretary signifies:renewal, continuity, a young man, but at the same time a tried and tested minister, with his basic characteristics of work and dedication, which are useful in his new duties.

Then the Prime Minister – as the same sources note – will report on the work of the government. He will stress that it is neither easy nor self-evident and will call on the New Democracy party’s executives not to let it get lost in the daily routine.

He will say that it is about breakthroughs that Greece has never experienced before and now that we are experiencing them, one might consider them self-evident.

Based on the same sources, Mr. Mitsotakis is expected to stand on the patriotic character of the ruling party, thereby also responding to the so-called “professional worriers”, a phrase he himself has used in the recent past.

At the same time, he will outline the triangle of priorities that the new government programme of the New Democracy will have, which will be translated into specific positions and measures that will constitute his election commitments for the next four years.

The Prime Minister’s new government plan is based on the following three axes:

Sovereignty: focus on convergence with Europe through increasing incomes, reducing unemployment and strengthening the competitiveness of the economy.

Safe and strong Greece: upgrading the country’s deterrent power, geopolitical role in the wider region and internal security.

-Thematic renaissance: modernization and digitization of the state (such as gov.gr) and improvement of the functioning of institutions.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis will also declare a party dash before the summer with activation of the party apparatus for a third victory of ND in the 2027 national elections.

He has repeatedly said that the opponent is not the opposition parties, but instability, uncertainty in the current international environment and ungovernability that will render the country weak, calling into question all that has been achieved so far.
