The possibility that Alexis Tsipras could prevail over Kyriakos Mitsotakis in the next election, Efi Achtsioglou, against both the polls and society’s reaction to the former prime minister’s new party.
When asked specifically on SKAI, she spoke of dynamics registered in society and a strong demand for political change, which, she said, is expressed by “8 out of 10 citizens”. She estimated that the specificity of the programmatic positions will play a decisive role, as many things will be decided there.
As for the possibility of political cooperation between herself and Alexis Tsipras, the former MP of New Left, told SKAI that nothing can be discounted and that “there is nothing given at the moment.”
She said that politically the space that is forming around the former prime minister is the closest to her own references, noting that what is most important is the formation of a strong political pole against New Democracy, thus replicating the “let Mitsotakis fall” narrative. Such a pole, he said, should have both a fully confrontational programme, especially on the issue of accuracy, and a clear stance in favour of the rule of law, which, he argued, has taken a beating in recent years.
“Alexis Tsipras’ party in terms of intentions has expressed these things. That is, it has set a programmatic canvas, because it is still at a general level, which makes this complete confrontation with the programme of New Democracy and talks about a governing left. That is, he looks forward to the change in government. It’s early days, but that’s what he has expressed as a mood. Now, the rest remains to be seen,” she pointed out.
Efi Achtsioglou reiterated that her resignation from her parliamentary seat was an independent choice, saying she considered it a consistent stance to give up her seat after participating in the internal party process for the leadership of SYRIZA.
Finally, she criticized PASOK, noting that in her view it had made a mistake in rejecting cooperation with the Left and not entering into a purely programmatic debate with New Democracy.
“People are still not sure that PASOK will keep this stance and that if they are pushed too hard they will not form some kind of coalition or some of their cadres will enter into this discussion. That’s why, in my opinion, it is right that people have a sense and they don’t see it with absolute certainty in what he is going to say,” he concluded.
