Nikos Dendias on the memory of the victims and the historical truth

On the occasion of the 82nd anniversary of the Distomo massacre on 10 June 1944, the Minister of National Defence, Nikos Dendias, paid tribute to the victims of one of the most heinous crimes committed by Nazi troops during World War II.

In a post on the social network X, Mr. Dendias stressed that the preservation of historical memory and historical truth is a minimum debt to future generations. As he said, the atrocity at Distomo claimed the lives of dozens of civilians, including pregnant women and infants.

The claims for damages and the forced loan

The minister also pointed out that the country has a duty to maintain in full Greece’s claims for German reparations, as well as for the repayment of the forced loan of the Occupation period.

“It is also our duty to maintain in full Greece’s claims for German reparations and the repayment of the forced loan.” Nikos Dendias stressed, linking the preservation of historical memory with the continued assertion of Greek claims.
