Giannis Alafouzos appears to be methodically moving forward with his plan to create a new platform for television content, which aspires to be an alternative proposal in the Super League television rights area.

The first step is the choice of Panathinaikos to pursue an autonomous course in its television future. According to a report by LiveSport, the “green” club has not reached an agreement with Cosmote TV, with the team’s owner now considering a different model for the exploitation of its rights.

It seems that Heracles is also part of the project. According to the same source, Mr Alafouzos has already submitted a proposal to the major shareholder of the “Graeus”,Panagiotis Monemvasiotis, with the two sides at an advanced stage of understanding. In this context, the creation of Iraklis TV is planned, along the lines of PAO TV, which is also being worked on.

The issue of transmission of matches during the transition period remains open, however, as the development of a new platform requires time. According to the same sources, the plan of Yannis Alafouzos includes the broadcasting of the most important matches of Panathinaikos and Heracles via SKAI, while other solutions are being considered for matches of lesser commercial value, although no final decision has been made.

At the same time, AEK and PAOK dmaintain contracts in force for the next season, however, they have already started discussions for their renewal. AEK reportedly received around 10 million euros from its TV rights last season, while PAOK received around 8 million euros. Panathinaikos’ owner aims to attract both clubs to the new platform in the future, with initial exploratory contacts already having taken place.

Percapita’s rival project

The rival project of Percapita

Percapita, the company jointly created by Thodoris Kyriakou, Vangelis Marinakis and Yannis Vardinoyannis, is opposed to this initiative, with the aim of managing and commercially exploiting the television rights of the Super League teams.

At present, 11 of the 14 teams in the league maintain a deal with Percapita. The exceptions are Panathinaikos, which had not joined the project, Heraklis, which appears to be approaching Alafouzos’ plan, and AEK, which is bound by a separate agreement with Cosmote TV.

According to Gazzetta.gr, Percapita is planning to create its own synchronous live streaming platform from the 2027-28 season. The venture will be based on ANT1+,in which the three entrepreneurs jointly hold equal stakes, with the prospect of expanding to other major sports competitions such as the Christmas League and EuroLeague.

Similar ambitions appear to be held by Giannis Alafouzos, who is attempting to build his own sports content ecosystem, having already turned to the TV rights to the Greek Cup.

Skai is the leader in the battle for the Greek Cup

The Hellenic Football Federation has entered an international competition for the concession of the TV rights to the Greek Cup and the Super Cup for the 2026-27, 2027-28 and 2028-29 seasons.

The extension granted to the procedure paid off, as three bids were finally submitted by television providers. The increased mobility is also attributed to the effort to upgrade the event by the EPO administration, which in previous years struggled to attract substantial interest from TV networks.

According to LiveSport,SKAI is the favorite for the acquisition of the rights. The station’s bid is reportedly in excess of€7 million for the three-year period, representing the largest financial proposal submitted to date for the event.
