At the meeting of Giorgos Gerapetritis with Hakhan Fidan, as an important step in maintaining communication between Greece and Turkey, was mentioned by Tassos Hadjivassiliou.

Talking to SKAI, the new deputy foreign minister said that “Mr. Gerapetritis made it clear in his meeting with Mr. Fidan that unilateral actions, such as those that Turkey with the “Blue Homeland” law, on the one hand do not help to maintain a good climate and on the other hand do not produce legal results“.

Mr. Hatzivassiliou stressed that the meeting of the two ministers “rightly took place“, as Greece believes that the channel of communication with Turkey must remain open, despite disagreements and difficulties. As he noted, “it is a policy of responsibility to talk to Turkey, but we do not ignore that unilateral actions, such as the planned “Blue Homeland” law, cannot produce results recognized by the international community“.

He continued, Hatzivassiliou raised the fundamental question of how Turkey can consider regulating issues of international law, such as maritime zones, through national legislation. “This is simply not possible,” he said.

Further, Hatzivassiliou referred to Turkey’s position in the Eastern Mediterranean, noting that Ankara is probably misreading reality: “It is a mistake for Turkey to think that there is a conspiracy against it with Israel as the protagonist and with Greece, Cyprus and other powers in the region as theoretical long arms. There is no anti-Turkish alliance or conspiracy,” he clarified.

In conclusion, Hatzivassiliou stressed that Greece is not working on scenarios of military conflicts against third countries and is not involved in such plans. He said that our country is a force of responsibility and justice that seeks to maintain open channels of communication.
