A tragic workplace accident occurred this morning (6/13) in the Sindos Industrial Area in western Thessaloniki, when a 56-year-old female worker became trapped in an industrial washing machine inside a factory and lost her life.

Authorities are investigating the exact circumstances under which the incident occurred.

According to information from ERT, the accident occurred around 7:30 a.m. The woman was working at a local business when, under circumstances that have not yet been clarified, she became trapped in the machine.

According to the same reports, her hand reportedly got caught in the shafts of the industrial washing machine. Within seconds, she was violently pulled into the machine, up to her shoulder.

Emergency response teams from EKAV, the Fire Department, and the Hellenic Police arrived immediately at the scene. Rescuers pulled the woman from the water, where she was unconscious, and transported her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
