Shocking scenes unfolded at the University in Heraklion, where an 18-month-old infant was brought by his grandfather in critical condition.

According to reports from Crete, the little girl had been experiencing health issues in the previous days. In fact, she had been examined by a pediatrician and had received medication, but the child’s condition reportedly worsened.

The 45-year-old grandfather, who had taken on the care of the child since her parents work outside of Crete, took him to the hospital when he saw that his condition was worsening.

Crete: Doctors fought for 48 minutes

Doctors determined that the infant was showing signs of sepsis. Shortly thereafter, he suffered cardiopulmonary arrest.

The medical staff immediately began CPR, fighting for 48 minutes to revive the infant. Despite their efforts, the little girl did not survive.

On the prosecutor’s orders, the child’s grandfather was arrested on charges of endangerment, in order to fully investigate the circumstances of the case and exactly what preceded the tragedy.
