Greece has signed the agreement to participate in the European funding program SAFE (Security Action for Europe), strengthening its cooperation with the European Union in the field of defense and security.

The SAFE program places particular emphasis on the development of technologies related to surveillance, cybersecurity and countering modern threats.

For Greece, participation in the program takes on special significance due to its geographical location and the EU’s increased interest in stability in the Eastern Mediterranean.

At the same time, Athens is seeking to strengthen its position in European defense programs by advocating for greater participation in joint funding and technology development initiatives.

This development was announced in a post on Platform X by the EU Commissioner for Defense and Space, Andrius Kubilius, who published the agreement signed with the Greek side.

According to the announcement, Greece’s participation in the SAFE program is expected to strengthen the country’s defense capabilities in the Mediterranean region through investments in strategic surveillance, secure communications and drone countermeasure systems.
