Chaos reigns within SYRIZA regarding the party’s future, as some are even considering legal action.
Warnings from the side of Polakis – Papas – Dourou to Sokratis Famellos to reach an agreement with Alexis Tsipras in the coming days are no coincidence. The minority faction that wants SYRIZA to remain open intends to take the matter to the extreme, knowing that Alexis Tsipras has “written them off.”
According to reports, many of the approximately 30 members of the Central Committee who voted in favor of SYRIZA continuing to operate are considering resorting to the courts as a last resort. Provided, of course, that Socrates Famellos does not present a binding and comprehensive agreement stating that those who wish to do so from SYRIZA will be candidates for ELAS.
Of course, this does not seem like a realistic scenario, since the former prime minister will select only those he personally wants for the ballots. Yes, most will come from SYRIZA, but not all, and well-known figures will be excluded.
According to the same sources, minority leaders are considering filing injunctions against the Famellos leadership and the Central Committee’s decision, provided that no overall agreement is reached and, of course, if the leadership of SYRIZA refuses to hold an extraordinary congress.
The goal is twofold: on the one hand, for the Polakis – Papas – Dourou faction to hold onto the party and lead it into the elections, and on the other, to prevent SYRIZA’s assets from being handed over to ELAS. After all, the latter is very important for both sides, since… they’ll do anything for money.
Historically, this isn’t unprecedented, as former members of the DIKKI managed to legally overturn the suspension of the party that had been decided by Dimitris Tsovolas.
In any case, the drama at SYRIZELAS will have many episodes, and things will likely escalate to extremes. The anger and accusations behind the closed doors directed at Nikos Pappas and Pavlos Polakis against Sokratis Famellos and Alexis Tsipras foreshadow fierce developments.
