His resignation from the faction with which he was elected to the top three candidates, was announced today at a special event by Christos Tentomas.
He also announced at the same time that he had resigned from his position as Vice President of the Athens City Council.
In his speech in Athens, in the presence of friends, colleagues, and residents from the city’s neighborhoods, Christos Tentomas emphasized that, three years after the last municipal elections, the time has come for a frank assessment of the city’s progress, as well as the performance of those serving Athens, whether in the administration or the opposition.
“As someone who has served this city continuously for thirty consecutive years, I have learned to look citizens in the eye and tell the truth,” he noted.
Christos Tentomas strongly criticized the current municipal administration, emphasizing that Athens is experiencing daily deterioration in critical areas, such as sanitation, traffic, parking, illegal activity, green spaces, public squares, playgrounds, and the challenges faced by small and medium-sized businesses.
As he noted, “Our Athens lacks an administration that responds to the needs of citizens and the modern challenges it is called upon to address,” while referring to a Municipal Authority that “can no longer fulfill even its basic duties and, at the same time, is taking out a loan of 75 million euros.”

Referring to his own career and the role of the Official Opposition, Christos Tentomas emphasized that Athens needs a new opposition dynamic, with more substance, presence, and connection with citizens.
“Criticism alone is not enough. We need a modern, alternative vision that will inspire the people of Athens once again,” he noted.
In this context, he announced his decision to leave the party, as well as his position as Vice President of the City Council, emphasizing that this choice does not signify a departure from Athens or its citizens.
“This decision of mine does not distance me from the struggle. It does not distance me from you. On the contrary, it liberates me,” he stated.
Christos Tentomas made it clear that he will continue to serve Athens as an independent city councilor, with a daily presence in the neighborhoods and with the goal of listening directly to citizens, their problems, and their suggestions.
“I will continue to be here, on the front lines, as a simple city councilor. To be by the side of every Athenian man and woman every day. To listen to your problems and fight for our city,” he emphasized.
Concluding his speech, Christos Tentomas thanked the citizens for their support and announced further updates this fall, making it clear that today’s decision marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of a new path of responsibility, which will be presented in detail next year.
“I want you by my side. We’ll talk again in person this fall. And then we’ll have much more to say,” he said characteristically.
