Antonis Saoulidis of ELAS reminded us why the Left, and especially Alexis Tsipras aren’t so good with numbers and the economy.

Specifically, Antonis Saoulidis from the show “Kalimera” made a series of promises, naturally without any restraint. Recalling the promises made by SYRIZA in 2015.

Then the representative of ELAS on the panel answered the question of where they would find the money. And at that point, the economists and mathematicians were ready to burn their degrees.

New taxes

Of course, it’s not just that ELAS under Alexis Tsipras promises to raise taxes and impose new ones. It is well known that for the former prime minister, high taxes are useful for distributing benefits.

However, Antonis Saoulidis took it too far with numbers that simply don’t add up: he claimed, word for word, that they would raise 4 billion euros(!) from tax increases on just 1,500 citizens.

The question is, how much will he tax these people to raise this enormous sum? Do they have the means to pay such high taxes? And what will happen if they move their tax residence due to such harsh taxation?

Okay, details. The power lies in the fairy tale; people come before numbers and all that—Alexis Tsipras has said this in the past.

But now they no longer have their god. And tax hikes and 4 billion from just 1,500 tax ID numbers? At some point, the mockery has its limits.

As Antonis Saoulidis stated “We will raise the tax on bond interest, we will raise the tax on capital gains—in other words, we’re talking about specific tax increases that affect only a few. We’re talking about 1,500 tax ID numbers that currently report over 900,000 euros. That’s 1,500 tax ID numbers. Raising the tax on these tax ID numbers could generate 4 billion euros in revenue.”.
