Alexis Tsipras’s return, proposals for social policy, and criticism of populism were at the center of Aris Portosalte’s remarks.

Subheading:

“Social policy is the state’s responsibility”

Aris Portosalte, speaking on the “Today” on SKAI, sharply criticized Alexis Tsipras, arguing that he is returning to the political forefront with the same “ideological obsessions” and the same “populism,” without presenting a convincing plan for governance.

As he noted, the main problem is that the former prime minister and his political camp “have nothing to say” about how they will govern the country. According to the journalist, the proposals put forward do not answer the question of how government policy will be effectively implemented.

“Companies do not implement social policy”

Aris Portosalte argued that social policy cannot be implemented by public enterprises or organizations, specifically citing Public Transportation and the Public Power Corporation. As he noted, responsibility for implementing social policy lies exclusively with the state, which collects tax revenues and decides how to allocate them.

In fact, he cited as an example the possibility of the state funding DEI with specific funds so that it can provide free electricity to citizens, emphasizing that in such a case, it would be clear that the cost is covered by citizens’ taxes and not by the company itself.

Concluding his remarks, the journalist argued that the opposition has still not learned from previous years of governance, noting that beyond populism, the way in which it formulates its policy proposals is also problematic.
