Giorgos Gerapetritis met in Athens with María Ángela Holguín Cuéllar, reaffirming Greece’s support for the efforts of UN to find a solution to the Cyprus issue.
Gerapetritis Meets with UN Envoy on the Cyprus Issue
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, George Gerapetritis, met today, Wednesday, June 17, in Athens with the Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General on Cyprus, María Ángela Holguín Cuéllar.
Ms. Holguín’s visit followed her meetings with the President of the Republic of Cyprus and the Turkish Cypriot leader, as part of efforts to advance the process of resolving the Cyprus Issue.
The Greek Position on the Resumption of Talks
During the meeting, Mr. Gerapetritis expressed Greece’s full support for the initiatives of the Secretary-General of the UN, Antonio Guterres, to find a comprehensive, fair, and sustainable solution to the Cyprus issue, based on the relevant Security Council resolutions.
At the same time, he underscored the importance of maintaining the positive momentum that has developed around the Cyprus issue over the past two-plus years. As he emphasized, Greece, in full harmony with the Republic of Cyprus, remains ready to contribute constructively to the next steps, with the aim of resuming talks on the basis of the agreed framework and under the auspices of the UN.
