Kyriakos Mitsotakis presented posokanei.gov.gr, which offers a comparison of prices, a history of price changes, and real-time European comparisons.
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis placed at the center of government policy to combat high prices the new electronic platform posokanei at gov.gr, emphasizing that Greek consumer gains yet another “weapon” in the battle against the rising cost of living. As he pointed out, the ability to compare prices in real time between Greece and other European countries enhances market transparency and makes it harder to maintain unjustifiably high prices, particularly by multinational companies. At the same time, he reiterated that tackling high prices requires realistic policies and concrete measures, not empty announcements and cost-free promises.
Mitsotakis: Unjustified prices cannot be tolerated
Kyriakos Mitsotakis emphasized that, for the first time, citizens have the ability to directly compare prices between the Greek market and corresponding markets in the European Union. As he noted, this new feature is particularly relevant to multinational companies, as price discrepancies are now visible and measurable.
The prime minister made it clear that unjustifiably high prices in Greece, compared to other European countries, cannot be easily accepted, sending a message that the government is continuing its efforts to strengthen competition and protect consumers.
The new platform presented by the government
The posokanei app is available via posokanei.gov.gr as well as on Android and iOS devices. In its initial phase of operation, it includes approximately 10,000 product codes, with daily price updates from the Galaxias, Sklavenitis, Chalkiadakis, SYNKA, Masoutis, My Market, AB Vasilopoulos, Kritikos, Market In and Lidl.
Users can search for products either by name or by barcode, instantly comparing available prices across supermarket chains.
Comparison with European markets and smart shopping
One of the app’s key features is displaying prices from abroad when the same product is found in European retail chains. Currently, the service covers markets such as Italy, France, Belgium, Romania, Bulgaria, Cyprus, and Spain.
At the same time, consumers have access to price history, allowing them to track the price trend of each product over time. The platform also allows users to create up to five shopping lists with up to 50 products each, calculating the total cost based on the quantities selected by the user.
In addition, the system suggests more affordable alternatives in the same product category, helping citizens reduce the cost of shopping cart. According to Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the battle against high prices continues and will be decided by the effectiveness of such practical tools that strengthen the consumer’s position in the market.
