The country is in the final stretch of selecting the new leadership of the judiciary .

The Conference of Presidents of the Parliament has completed the procedure set forth in the Rules of Procedure (Article 14) and Law 4938/22, “Code on the Organization of Courts and the Status of Judicial Officers and Other Provisions” (Article 59), which provides that, following a hearing, the Conference shall express an opinion on the filling of the position of President of the Supreme Court, which in this case becomes vacant on June 30. Two rounds of hearings had preceded this.

Nine Vice Presidents of the Supreme Court and 18 Justices of the Supreme Court had been invited to the Conference of Presidents, but several did not attend, either due to personal conflicts or for other reasons.

The Vice Presidents of the Supreme Court Panagiotis Lymberopoulos (15 votes), Socrates Plastiras (10 votes), and Supreme Court Justice Panagiotis Venizeleas (9 votes), The results of the Conference of Presidents’ vote will be sent to the Minister of Justice for submission to the Council of Ministers.

This coming Thursday and Friday, the Conference of Presidents of the Hellenic Parliament will hold hearings for candidates for the position of Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, as the current Prosecutor, Konstantinos Tzavellas, is stepping down upon retirement.
