He celebrated his first victory in Diamond League for this year’s outdoor track and field season was celebrated by Emmanouil Karalis in Doha, with a jump of 5.92 meters.
At a meet where the pole vault champion, Mondo Duplantis—who got married a few days ago—was absent, the Greek “bronze” Olympic medalist continued his winning streak this season, as in his previous competition, at a meet in Ostrava on June 16, he once again took first place with a jump of 5.82 meters.
This is the 26-year-old’s first Diamond League victory this year, following a sixth-place finish in Norway and a seventh-place finish in China. Emmanouil Karalis has celebrated another Diamond League victory, last year in Lausanne, where he cleared 6.02 meters. So far, he has recorded his best jumps of the current outdoor track season in Limassol and Tourkou, clearing 6 meters in both meets.
Emmanouil Karalis cleared 5.62 m and 5.82 m on his first attempt, but needed a second jump for the 5.92 m, when he cleared the bar by a wide margin. He then attempted 6.02 m twice and 6.07 m once, without success, even though he appeared capable of “flying” over 6 meters again.
American Christopher Nielsen finished second with a jump of 5.92 m, a distance also achieved by Norway’s Sondre Guttormsen, who took third place, as their other attempts were shorter than those of the Greek champion.
