At least three people lost their lives as a result of new Russian strikes in the regions of Poltava and Dnipropetrovsk, in eastern Ukraine, according to announcements made by local authorities today (June 21).
These attacks also caused dozens of injuries, while local emergency services continue to assess the damage in the affected areas.
Nine injured in Dnipropetrovsk
The head of the military command of the Dnipropetrovsk region, Oleksandr Ganza, reported via Telegram that the attacks included bombings, strikes with unmanned aerial vehicles (drones), and artillery fire.
“One person was killed and nine were injured” in bombings, drone attacks, and artillery fire targeting three areas in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
Two dead and 13 injured in Poltava
In the Poltava region, the head of the local administration Vitaly Diakivnich announced that the death toll had risen to two, as one of the injured who had been taken to a hospital succumbed to his injuries.
“Two people lost their lives, one of whom succumbed to his injuries at the hospital where he had been taken.”
He added that the attack, which took place on Saturday night, also left 13 people were injured.
At the same time, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that Russian air defense forces shot down 239 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles overnight, in yet another sign of the ongoing tension between the two sides.
