The process for the elevator inventory will definitely be completed by June 30, as the current legislative framework does not allow for a further extension.

The original deadline had expired at the end of November, but an extension was granted until the end of this month.

To date, the response from owners is considered satisfactory. According to available data, approximately 286,000 elevators have already been registered out of the estimated total of 310,000 in operation in the country.

The process is carried out electronically via the elevator.mindev.gov.gr platform, using Taxisnet codes.

Which buildings are subject to this requirement

The inventory is mandatory for apartment buildings, office buildings, hotels, commercial spaces, and mixed-use buildings.

The requirement applies even in cases where the elevator has already been certified or registered in another registry.

Fines after the deadline

After June 30, administrative penalties will be imposed for any elevator that has not been registered.

The fines are as follows:

  • 1,000 euros for residential buildings
  • 2,500 euros for commercial or mixed-use buildings
  • 5,000 euros for buildings accessible to the public

The registration number will now serve as a key element for the technical identification of the elevator and must be confirmed by the maintenance technician or installer.

In practice, elevators that have not been registered will not be able to be legally maintained.

Inspections will begin in July

Once the deadline has passed, the Independent Market Control Authority will conduct extensive inspections to verify owners’ compliance.

The inspections are expected to focus both on the existence of an inventory number and on compliance with the obligations set forth in the new framework for the operation and maintenance of elevators.
