Found dead this morning (June 21) in the holding cells of the Heraklion Police Headquarters 34-year-old woman, who a year ago gave birth in her home and threw her baby in the trash.
According to information from CRETA24, the woman, who had been remanded in custody, was at the Police Headquarters awaiting her trial. That morning, while she was sleeping, she woke up to use the restroom, returned to bed, fell asleep, but she never woke up again.
The exact cause of the 34-year-old’s death will be determined by the forensic examination.
The case that shocked Heraklion
In May 2025, after giving birth, the woman placed her newborn baby in a bag and abandoned it. Her partner then found her at her home in Ano Alikarnassos covered in blood and called the ambulance service. The paramedics who arrived at the house immediately realized that the woman had given birth and persistently asked her where the baby was.
One of the two paramedics began searching around the house and went to the trash bins located 250 meters away, where he found the child inside a plastic bag.
