A major fire that broke out at noon on Monday (June 22) in a forested area in Akraifnio in Boeotia, mobilizing significant forces from the Fire Department.

In fact, the National Highway Athens – Lamia at Akraifnio in both directions due to the fire raging in Boeotia. 

According to the Traffic Police, traffic heading toward Athens is being diverted from the Kastrou interchange (115th km) to the Thebes interchange (90th km). In the direction of Lamia, traffic is being diverted from the Thebes interchange (90th km) to the Kastrou interchange (115th km).

The announcement from Nea Odos:

“Nea Odos informs drivers that a two-way traffic diversion is now in effect from the Thiva Interchange Thebes to the Kastrou Interchange (km 89–km 114) due to a fire. Due to this detour, vehicles passing through the Thebes Main and Side Toll Stations will not be required to pay tolls.

Nea Odos has taken all necessary measures to ensure the safety and convenience of drivers, and relevant temporary signage has been installed to ensure that all drivers are fully informed. Nea Odos thanks drivers for their understanding and urges them to pay close attention, as they must fully comply with the relevant signage.”

Please note that shortly before 4:00 p.m., a message was sent from 112 to those in the area, urging them to be on alert: “Forest fire in the Akraifnio area of the Regional Unit of Boeotia. Remain on alert and follow the instructions of the authorities,” the message stated.

Firefighting forces have been reinforced, and 118 firefighters are now on the scene with 27 vehicles and 6 ground teams, while 11 aircraft and 3 helicopters are operating from the air, one of which is coordinating their efforts.

Strong winds in the area are hampering firefighting efforts.
