Fierce attack on Mayor of Athens Haris Doukas, launched from Parliament by Dimitris Kairidis.
Mr. Kairidis argued that the capital’s image has deteriorated dramatically during his tenure, going so far as to say that “Athens, to be honest, has never been in a worse state, not even during the years of the deep crisis of the previous decade.”
During his remarks, as part of the debate on the new Local Government Code, the parliamentary spokesperson for New Democracy sarcastically referred to the internal dynamics within the Center-Left and the disputes between PASOK and ELAS, blaming the mayor of Athens for an informal, organized popular front that is leading the party into a dead end.
“You’d be in a better position,” he said, “if Mr. Bakogiannis had been elected.” For us, the Doukas mayoralty is a godsend, because it serves as a vivid, recurring example of the “popular front” you’re trying to form, together with SYRIZA, the New Left, and PASOK,” he noted characteristically.
