Fotini Arabatzi commented on the internal dynamics within the opposition faction following the founding of the new party led by Alexis Tsipras.
Ms. Arabatzis began by recalling the center-right bloc’s clear electoral superiority over the former prime minister in the past, pointedly noting that “New Democracy has defeated Tsipras five times.”
As the MP pointed out, Mr. Tsipras “said something else that should be of particular concern to the opposition: that if he hadn’t formed his own party, Mitsotakis would have won by a landslide.”
Continuing her analysis, Fotini Arabatzi assessed that the founding of the new political faction achieved its immediate goal, which was none other than regaining leadership within the left and center-left political spectrum, dramatically shifting the balance of power for the other contenders. “From the moment he founded his new political party, Tsipras has taken control of the opposition,” she emphatically stated.
Concluding her remarks, the New Democracy MP turned her criticism toward Harilaou Trikoupi, arguing that Alexis Tsipras’s momentum is trapping PASOK at low poll numbers and thwarting any hopes it might have for a leading role. “This is an issue that I imagine a party like PASOK, which is fighting for third or fourth place, should give serious thought to,” Ms. Arabatzis concluded.
