She thanked Theodora Tzakri for “responding to the request” to resign, Stefanos Kasselakis in a post.
The president of the “Democrats” commented on social media that “the Democrats are entering a new phase, defining their political space within the liberal center of practical politics” and that “there is no room in this journey for personal ambitions or anachronistic notions of political survival.”
It should be noted that earlier, Ms. Tzachri announced via her personal social media account her departure from the “Democrats,” making clear jabs at the party’s president, Stefanos Kasselakis. In fact, she accused Mr. Kasselakis of “is legitimizing an obvious shift to the right, which compels me to resign immediately.”
Mr. Kasselakis’s post in full
Today I requested Theodora Tzakri’s resignation from her position as Vice President of the Democrats and the European Democratic Party.
I am grateful for Theodora’s support since the SYRIZA primary process in 2023 and ever since.
The Democrats are entering a new phase, defining their political space in the liberal center of practical politics, with the values of solidarity, equality, and humanism at our core. Only this political proposal can bring about real progress.
There is no room on this path for personal ambitions or anachronistic notions of political survival. On this path, all members and leaders of the Democrats unite with altruism and idealism, but also with professionalism and realism.
We are Democrats for our ideas, not for power. We are not career politicians. We are active citizens with experience in the workforce, the marketplace, academia, and civil society—and we are united to contribute to the radical renewal our country needs.
I thank Theodora for responding to my request. We Democrats are pressing on undeterred. The final reckoning will come at the end, and I have no doubt that the Greek people will embrace our message.
