The number of agricultural and forest fires that broke out over the past 24 hours across the country. Meanwhile, two arrests were made in Attica.

Specifically, over the past 24 hours, of the 44 agricultural and forest fires, 37 were immediately tackled by the Fire Department, while firefighting forces are still battling 7 others. Meanwhile, there were two arrests and one administrative fine were issued for violations of fire safety laws in Attica.

Investigators from the Arson Crimes Investigation Units (A.K.) investigators from the Arson Crime Investigation Units (A.K.A.E.E.) of the Fire Department’s Crime Prevention Directorate Arson Crimes (D.A.E.E.) of the Fire Department.

Specifically, as reported by the Fire Department, the A.K.A.E.E. Eastern Attica proceeded today to arrest a 59-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man under the flagrante delicto procedure, as it was determined at a shooting range in Afidnes, Attica, a violation of the current fire safety measures, due to the very high fire danger index. The arrested individuals were brought before the competent prosecuting authority.

Additionally, according to a related report from the Fire Department, a 79-year-old man in Nea Makri, Attica, used a metal grill in violation of current fire safety measures. The incident was handled by the Eastern Attica Fire and Rescue Service (A.K.A.E.E.), and the perpetrator was fined 3,000 euros.

It should be noted that in both of the above cases, violations of the applicable fire safety measures were found, despite the fact that these specific areas were subject to a very high fire risk (Risk Category 4).

It should be noted that from January 1 through June 28, 2026, a total of 488 administrative fines have been imposed, amounting to 560,470.41 euros, while 133 arrests have been made under the procedure for offenses caught in the act. Of these, 125 (93.94%) involved fires caused by negligence and 8 (6.06%) involved arson.
